Frederick P. Rose Architecture Fellowship
  • David Flores was the Frederick P. Rose Architecture Fellow at Casa and the work through this fellowship lead to the development of policy, planning and architectural design strategies for future affordable housing development in San Ysidro.
  • Within the first year of the Rose Fellowship, David got elected to the San Ysidro Planning and Development Group, served as secretary until 2004 and is currently serving as Chairman.
  • He also organizes and directs the community forum called "San Ysidro - Sin Limites/Unlimited" that was created (in January 2002) to discuss housing and community/economic development issues.
  • David has also volunteered time with the City of San Diego Planning Department, serving on the "Strategic Framework - City of Villages" Public Outreach Subcommittee and organized the largest community meeting that responded to the presentation of the City of Villages strategy.
  • Eight single family, first-time homeownership homes were designed, and constructed within the fellowship period and David served as project manager and owner’s representative during the construction period.
  • David found the opportunity to engage community development and housing issues, organized and hosted a national panel of urban planners, designers, architects and artists for a redesign strategy for the San Ysidro Port of Entry. See Border Dialogues.
