Andrea P. Skorepa andreas@casafamiliar.org Andrea has served as Chief Executive Officer of CASA FAMILIAR since 1980. A native of San Ysidro, California, she served as a VISTA volunteer, and before joining Casa Familiar was a teacher in the San Ysidro Elementary School District. She is President of the Board of Directors of Casa Familiar, Inc. and is directly responsible for the overall administration of the agency's programs and annual budget of one million dollars, directing a staff of 35 full- and part-time employees (which are assisted and supplemented with volunteers and "workfare" participants). She served 8 years as a Planning Commissioner for the City of San Diego, and served for ten years as a founder and Board Chair of the City of San Diego's Citizen Advisory Board on Police/Community Relations. Andrea has also served on the Mayor's Latino Advisory Committee, ACLU, Chicano Executives Committee, American Institute of Architects Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team, San Diego Repertory Theater, and a multitude of other community-based activities, board and commissions on behalf of the San Diego community.
Luz Camacho Espinozaluzc@casafamiliar.orgLuz is Casa Familiar’s Chief Operations Officer. Her responsibilities include day-to-day monitoring and management of all of the agency’s staff and human resources department, and Casa’s affordable housing management. In addition, Luz assists the agency’s Board of Directors in formulating proposals for submission to government and private funding sources. Luz has been with Casa Familiar since 1985, serving in the capacities of Office Manager, Education Specialist, Administrative Assistant Director, and currently Chief Operations Officer. Luz is a graduate of the one year long Local Initiatives Support Corporation’s Affordable Housing and Community Development Training Institute (1991-1992).
Luz is also an artist, co-founder of RevArte a bi-national group of artists with an intensive track record that includes the following:
• Habana Bienal 2000 • “Vernacular Art” presentation for San Diego State University • “6 to 6” Art Program for Elementary Schools in San Ysidro commissioned by the San Diego Arts Commission • Insite 97 • Rockefeller Grant for the “Popotla” Project in Baja California • “Mi Casa, Mi Pueblo” commissioned by Casa Familiar and San Diego Arts Commission • USA Neighborhood Conference, Madison Wisconsin – presentation • and numerous exhibits in the Tijuana/San Diego region.
Michael R. Freedmanmichaelf@casafamiliar.orgMike Freedman joined Casa Familiar in 1995 as the Community Development Manager, and his association with the agency reaches back to 1987. In 1965, at the age of 19, Mike entered the U. S. Navy, and after boot camp was assigned to duty in California. He served on many ships and shore stations, and visited many countries until his retirement in 1989 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Mike worked as the Government Relations Representative for Hacienda San Ysidro, Inc., a real estate development company, and as Retail/Wholesale Sales Manager for C & R Supplies, Inc. Mike has owned a home in San Ysidro since 1986. He is a member of the San Ysidro Planning and Development Group since 1987, and served as the Chairman for 6 years (1994-2000). He is also a San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce member since 1988, and a Life Member of numerous veterans’ organizations.
David Floresdavidf@casafamiliar.orgDavid is on his fourth year on staff with Casa Familiar. He was awarded the Frederick P. Rose Architectural Rose Fellowship (2001-2003) through The Enterprise Foundation. His focus is to assist the agency with its goal of providing great design of affordable housing for the community. David is a graduate of The University of Arizona (B. of Architecture), with over ten years of experience in the field, and is processing his application for becoming licensed as an architect in the State of California. David is also serving in the San Ysidro Planning and Development Group as Chair until 2006. He also organizes and directs the monthly community forum called “San Ysidro – Sin Limites/Unlimited” that was created (in January 2002) to discuss housing and community development issues. In addition, he is assisting with evaluating all of the Casa Familiar facilities for improvements through identifying funding sources, contracting and directing the upgrade/rehabilitation work done on those facilities. David has also volunteered time with the City of San Diego Planning Department, serving on the “Strategic Framework - City of Villages” Public Outreach Subcommittee, and heads the local effort for the “Mi Pueblo—Villages Create the City” - San Ysidro Pilot Village.
