In 2023, Casa Familiar will celebrate its 50th year as a 501(c)(3) non-profit living on mission to serve the community of San Ysidro and neighboring communities in the South Bay. Our focus continues to be on building community to advance the movement towards justice and equity for communities like San Ysidro and its neighbors, and celebrates community champions and leaders who partake in this journey.

Avanzando San Ysidro Community Land Trust Development Project
There are 103 units of affordable housing that will be converted to home ownership after 15 years.

La Semilla (The Seed) Pilot Climate Resiliency Project
Multi-purpose space for neighborhood-scale green interventions including electric vehicle infrastructure, food forest, micro-mobility station and community plaza.

Climate Action Plan
Prioritization of funding & implementation in historically underserved communities. Environmental Justice and Advocacy work is a continued effort and seeks to address issues such as air quality and transportation justice.

AB617 Community Air Protection Program
Development & implementation of a Community Emissions Reduction Program. The community of San Ysidro is home to the busiest land border crossing with an estimated 48 million cars and trucks using the POE each year. Measuring the air quality and finding ways to reduce harmful emissions is key to keeping this community thriving and prospering.

Beyer Park
Advocated for funding as part of the Mayor’s budget. Casa contributed $800K for an additional 185 trees and greenery, hydration stations, and public art.

Cultural Corridor
Capital Improvement Project and Placemaking Strategies for Cypress Drive. Installation of a safe pedestrian path of travel spanning from San Ysidro Blvd to the Beyer Trolley platform.
Status: In Progress

Transportation Justice
Development of San Ysidro Mobility Hub & Extension of Youth Opportunity Passes (YOP) program.
Status: Ongoing

Economic & Environmental Resilience Master Plan
Community-led anti-displacement & climate equity strategies.
Status: Ongoing
