Recent Advocacy Projects

Casa Familiar implements the San Ysidro Sin Limites/Unlimited Workshops as a forum for grassroots community involvement to gain input on community visioning, policy and decision making that affect the San Ysidro community.

In partnership with San Diego State University’s Graduate School of Public Health, and the San Diego Prevention Research Center, Casa conducts the Healthy Borders Project to investigate the adverse social, health and environmental effects of the border crossing delays.

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) requests Casa’s involvement in efforts to reach the communities of South San Diego to provide advocacy and outreach for Spanish speaking residents.

Casa Familiar collaborates with ENGAGE San Diego (A program of the San Diego LGBT Community Center) to implement the “Get Out the Vote” Campaign in San Ysidro for the 2012 Mayoral Campaign.

Casa Familiar collaborates with San Ysidro promotoras to call attention to the need for a safe route to the local San Ysidro High School that was promised since 2002(currently there is no sidewalk on a windy hillside road, and the only walking route to the high school) . Every last Friday of the month promotoras, residents, and Casa Familiar volunteers organize a “Safe Rout to School Walk” that has gained the attention of the City of San Diego representatives and elected’s who have committed to seeing this project completed. Organized walks to the high school will continue until the sidewalk is complete.
